Cymbal Rolls
Probably been mentioned before but is there a way to get (or for musescore to integrate) much better sounding cymbal rolls, tremolo on top of a cymbal clash doesn't quite cut it for me when I need a big dramatic film-score like cymbal roll

Use the cymbal roll in the Marching Cymbals instrument, and throw a Sustain ( |______| in the Lines palette) under it. That way you don't get that robotic decay cut-off as it crescendos.

Hi SketchMan3
I have added Musescore Drumline so that I can follow your advice above. I'm new to Musescore and generally computer-challenged. Despite reading the tutorial on MDL I cannot figure out how to do what you describe above.
Can you point me to step-by-step instructions or can you help?
Thank you!

My apologies for being 2 years late. Life pulled me away. I hope you've figured it out since then. If not, here's what you do:
Edit > Instruments... > Choose Marching Band from the drop-down menu on the left > Choose Percussion - Marching > Choose Cymbals > Click Add To Score (Or explore your options to choose whichever cymbal you think sound nice)
To execute a nicer-sounding Cymbal roll, enter Cymbal Roll notes into your score, with tremolo and crescendo set up however you like..., and then go to Palettes > Lines and select Pedal (Straight Hooks), which looks something like this |________|. That's a sustain pedal, and it will cause the sounds of the cymbal rolls to overlap each other rather than canceling each other out.

I tried adding a pedal, and it still sounds terrible
is this how you do it?

You’re going to want to use the pedal with the fancy pedal marking (labeled Ped.). If you’re using Musescore 4, it’ll now be under palette called piano.

hi,
thanks for your step-by-step instruction, unfortunately I still cannot get the right effect even after following your guide, had no idea what's the problem.
Anyway, another 2 years has gone, how's your life now?

My bad. This is in MU4 with Muse sounds. There is already reverb on the sound so you don't need the pedal. There is no Sus cymbal in Basic sounds. Create a cymbal staff. In the mixer go to Sound fonts>MS Basic>Drum sets>Orchestra kits. But the notation should still work. Add some reverb.
