Re: Update Musescore for PC to modify part name in full score
I wrote to support to ask if they will update Musescore 3 on PC to modify or change a part name in the full score like you can in MuseScore 2. In Musescire 2, you can click on the partname and change the part name to a different part name in the full score. In MuseScore 3, there is no option to do that. Will this be a new feature in an update to MuseScore 3? Thanks for your reading and input about this issue.

You can change the part name by double-clicking on the instrument name in the main score, then modifying the "Part name" text box.

I have tried doing that in MoseScore 3 on PC. It does not work on MuseScore 3, but does on MuseScore 2. On a score I'm working on for Tuba and Piano, I can make the new Tuba part and see the individual Tuba part, but when I click on the full score, it says voice and piano, but when I double click on the part name Voice, it does not allow me to change it.

Best to attach score then.

Ah I believe I misunderstood your previous comment. Once you've created a part there's no way to change its name in MU3, that is correct. I believe there are changes in the works for the parts system in MU4 at least. In the meantime, you'll need to delete and re-create the part with the name you want.

Ok. That is what I thought, bus was hoping there would be an update to fix this issue.

I can rename parts in 3.6.2, in the File > Parts dialog. That doesn't change the
partName
tag of that part though nor the name shown in the upper left corner, but those can get changed too. Also the part name in the staff properties dialog can get changed.
I'm a bit confused - why would a tuba part ever say "voice" to begin with? If you created it for voice but are now changing it to tuba, the part name in the score does change automatically. Are you perhaps using the mixer to change the internal playback sound only? If the score is meant to be for tuba, don't do that - use Staff/Part Properties to actually change the isntrument.
Beyond that, anything visible in the score is changeable directly, either through the part name or instrument names in Staff/Part Properties, or the part title in File / Parts, or directly editing the part name in the header, etc.
So if you have a specific score where there is something you are having trouble changing, please attach it so we can understand and assist better.

The voice, piano score comes from a pdf file I uploaded to the Musescore website and when the music file is opened after download, the score shows voice, piano and in that full score, the voice part cannot be changed in the full score, but I can add a new part and call it tuba that comes from the voice part, but in the full score, it still shows voice, piano but in the full score, I the part name cannot be changed in the full score view.

As mentioned, it should be possible using one of the methods we described. But we'd need to see your score in order to give you more specific advice. If you attach your score (the actual MSCZ file, not a PDF or other picture) and tell us specifically where you re still seeing "voice", we can tell exactly how to change it.

It's ok. I've inport my score into Musescore 2. When I'm done with the editing in 2, I'll import it into 3 and finish it in there. Thanks for everyone's help though.
