How to make a note crescendo to a dynamic, then apply a different dynamic to the next note?

I think the title is self-explanatory.

I have this situation right now:

I want the first note to crescendo to mp as written, but the note after that should be p. Is this possible? If not, I might put this into Feature Requests. Because as far as I can tell, the target dynamic of a crescendo has to be applied to the note after the crescendo, which is preventing me from doing this.

The easiest way is to make that first whole note into a doted half tied to a quarter. Then put the desired loud dynamic under the quarter. You could fiddle with an extravagant hidden note and measure setup. I don't think it is worth it. Besides players (and MuseScore )will know just how loud you want it.

No, that's my problem, MuseScore does not know how loud I want it. The playback is what's important to me here and the playback is not cooperating. But if I find no other option, I'll try what you suggested. Also, what do you mean with measure setup?

I mean, I don't want it to look like my image, it was just for reference and to show what I have right now.

I already understood what your suggestion was, I was just hoping that there'd be a way to actually precisely do what I wanted. Because what you're showing does work, but it slightly (even if it's barely noticeable) alters how it plays out because the crescendo won't go across the entire note. That's what's bothering me. As I said, I'm willing to do this if there's no other way, but... ugh. I hate that something seemingly simple like the thing I'm asking for is apparently not possible.
