Too much space between the first and second systems

• Jan 1, 2023 - 12:59

Hello everyone, happy new year!

I just started using MuseScore and I'm having a problem with the formatting. There is a large space between the first system and second system of my score and not between the other systems. I don't know how to change this.

Thank you for your help!

You needn't to delete it. It belongs to the piano bass stave of measure 2. Select it and then you will see to which note it belongs. Then just move it to the right place.
Of course, this also works with Ctrl-A and Ctrl-R, but then you don't know what caused it.

It does not (always).
This misplaced "p" seems to belong to the first eighth note (or second?) of the bass system in measure 2. If you select it and press Ctrl-R, it will be moved to the quarter rest of the first measure. Strictly speaking, this is wrong.
Test the same with the 'p' of the 'Voix' in an new opened score. In 3.6.2 it jumps from the quarter note in measure 2 to the eighth note of measure 1. This is also wrong.

What do you mean?
I replied to SteveBlower. In this case selecting the misplaced 'p' and pressing Ctrl-R moves it probably to the wrong place.
In my previous post I suggested to move this wrong placed 'p' manually to it's correct position.

The key combination Ctrl-A + Ctrl-R normally resets all positions. That was my experience until today.
As I noticed now, it also moves some things to a wrong position: Open the original score of this thread again and do Ctrl-A / Ctrl-R and compare the position of the 'p' on the first staff (Voix) before and after Ctrl-R is executed.
So I have to correct my statement that it also works with Ctrl-A / Ctrl-R. Here in the case obviously not.

Ctrl-A and Ctrl-R also removes other things silently. So it can be a great overkill.

I found that moving problem elements wasn't enough.

I have found it a common issue of a number of scores going from 3 to 4 that there are elements in the right place causing these huge gaps. Moving them doesn't eliminate the gap, but deleting and putting them back in the same place does work. In a couple of cases you can literally delete and then undo delete and the gap problem is resolved.

"Ctrl-A and Ctrl-R also removes other things silently. So it can be a great overkill."

To be more precise, CTRL+A followed by CTRL+R moves rather than removes other things. And agreed, that can be an overkill, which was why I pointed out in my earlier post that CTRL+R can be applied selectively to only move the things you want to move.
