MuseSound Documentation
Hello everyone,
I'll get straight to the point: what are MuseSound virtual instruments and how do they work?
What data do they receive when playing the score (probably MIDI but not only, as @Tantacrul points out in this on video).
As far as I can see they are a bit like the ".sfz
" format (even if they have .sts
and .spx
extensions).
Do they use samples from other available free sample library (like VCSL, VSCO-2-CE ) or SSO or they use specially recorded sounds?
Is there, or will be available, any documentation on the format they use, or on the MuseSampler
software component (which, I believe, is the sampler that can interpret them)?
I was blown away by the way they sound! Even if they still need some fine-tuning, they are something stunning.
I am super curious to know more about how they work and I was not able to find details inside the handbook.
I previolusly written this same exact post inside a github discussion here but no activity since now.
Thank you

Respectfully, people here on the Forum can (search, select, copy) answers to your questions, FOR YOU... Or you can do what nearly everybody does, and research yourself. OR, you can do your research, get as far as you can, and if you still have questions, you can post here with something specific: "I've tried to find where the MuseSounds samples come from - does anybody know how they were accumulated -- and from what source(s)?"

hi Are Jayem,
Obviously, if I have written here on the forum it is because I have not yet been able to find, either here or elsewhere, the information I was looking for. Respectfully, I don't understand what your point is.
If it is because I should have made it explicit then OK, maybe I did not explain myself completely.
If, on the other hand, it's because my question is not clear enough for you, then I'll try to rewrite it better below (just read the title of the post): "Where can I find documentation on MuseSound soundfont format"?
Thank you

The specs have not yet been published but that is planned, once the dust settles.

Thank you Marc,
I'm looking forward for the documentation :)
we will talk again!

Any idea when that will occur? I'm currently stuck between the crashy V3 and the "beta(?)" V4.

I don't have any further updates on the Muse Sounds specs, but to be clear, MuseScore 4 has been out of beta for several months now, currently on 4.0.2, which fixes all reported corruptions and crashes and a number of other bugs, plus other enhancements. Crashes in MuseScore 3 won't be fixed at this point, but any problems you experience with MuseScore 4 should definitely be reported.
