Thanks. The musicxml file was created in IReal Pro. I was able to import the file in MuseScore, but only single notes show up. I'm looking for the piano chords.
You mean the chord symbols? They do import properly. In 3.6.2 that is, in 4.1.1 they do have a known issue to not show the root name (see https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/16638), that resolves after a save and reopen though. Or via Format > Style > Chord symbols and toggilng between Jazz and Normal.
There aren't any 'real' chords (mutliple notes on the same voice at the same time) in that MusicXML, only single notes, one after the other
There are no explicit piano chords in the MusicXML file, just single notes (with diamond-shaped notehead) and chord symbols. For chord symbols the MusicXML file specifies only the root and the kind (for the first note "Eb" and "maj7"). After import MuseScore shows exactly that.
You may be looking for the "expand chord symbols into notes" function, which is in menu "tools / realize chord symbols".
Thanks. I looked at tools and the scroll down menu and am not seeing realize chord symbols, and expand chord symbols into notes. I have MuseScore 3 which I just downloaded yesterday...totally unfamiliar with the program. Again, thanks for your help.
IReal Pro is saying that you can export a .musicxml file that will open up in MusicScore and show all the notes in sheet music form. Here's their article...it shows a complete sheet music page with all notes.
I imported a midi file that I made from Ireal Pro earlier, and this showed up perfectly. Thanks so much for your help...I should be good to continue floundering in the world of music.
If ireal exported the chord symbols as sound to midi, than yes, MuseScore would import those too
But if there are only single notes and chord symbols in ireal pro, an export to musicxml would export the signl notes, and the chord symbols themselves.
In Mu3 right-click a chord symbol, select all similar, then right-click again , Realize chord symbols

Select the file and open with you version of MuseScore. You might need to select more options.

If you suspect the import is incorrect and you would like someone to investigate, you will have to provide the file for further analysis.
