I play the handbells and use Musescore to adapt music for the number of bells we have. There are many ways of playing the bells to get different sounds from them. One way is to 'thumb damp' them (which makes it sound staccato) and is done by placing the thumb of your hand on the outside of the handbell casting, producing a stopped sound as the clapper strikes the bell.

I certainly am. Thank you. I saw that Handbells had been added to the instruments in the scores but hadn't been able to find where the palette for their musical symbols were. I have a lot of catching up to do!

In MU4 select View>check Master Palette>scroll down to and select "Symbols">scroll down to "Handbells". I don't know if they affect playback.
