classical guitar ensemble scores
I'm seeking new notation software, lost my Finale program a few months ago when I upgraded my operating system :(
I mainly write scores in standard notation for classical guitar ensemble, 2 to 8 guitars, and I need to have access to symbols that are specific to the instrument. I occasionally write jazz lead sheets, so 'real book' fonts would also be helpful.
My question to the forum is;
Are any of the older musescore versions better for guitar notation than the latest version, or am I better off going straight to the new program...if so ..what makes the new program better?

Not really. In my opinion, starting with version 3 and then moving on to version 4 is a waste of time. You'll have to relearn a few things. Each version has its advantages and disadvantages (it would take too long to go into detail), but you need to move forward and bet on the future rather than getting stuck on an old version, the latest version (3.6.2) is almost 4 years old... (February 2021)
As for the guitar-specific symbols, both versions have them, and for the Jazz style, you have a few specific fonts, like Muse Jazz, and Petaluma.

Thanks for the comment, yes, I downloaded the current version,...I'll spend some time getting familiar with it. Glad to know other guitarists have had success with it,
cheers!
I have just begun with MuseScore 4 and I think that it has many good qualities.
I had FINALE for 16 years and was very uncomfortable with an update, so I went
back to the former and stayed there. Once you have mastered your present
programme and you are happy with it - I suggest that you stay with it rather
than upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. Jeff

Makes sense, stick with home cooking.
