First thing to look at: does your computer meet the System Requirements? https://musescore.org/en/download at the bottom of the page.

And, if you look on the software Download page (down at the bottom), it looks as though your equipment does not meet the minimum requirements:

Hi Musescore community, I was having problems with Musescore ( I kept getting the spinning wheel, as in constantly!). It was suggested that my computer wasn't powerful enough ( it was only dual Core with 8G of Ram). I am doing a Masters in composition so this is very important to me. I bought a new computer now with 6 core, with 16G Ram). But even now I keep getting the spinning wheel as it gets more frequent over time. It really is a huge impediment to my work I really can t get anything done. can some one please help me out. With my powerfull computer I shouldn't be having these issues, I just want to get my work done.
Should I be upgarding my version of Musescore? Please help thanks in advance!

Do you have an SSD as specified in the system requirements for Musescore V4 https://musescore.org/en/download#System-requirements?
Users report that having an SSD rather than an HDD makes a lot of difference.
Also note that the recommended number of cores is 8 (minimum 4).

Thank you , the weird thing is even on my dual core system for a long time I had no issues at all even doing an orchestral score. Thats why I thought 6 core should be ok.
I'm not sure about SSD but I'll look into that
thanks again much appreciated

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find out whether my system is HDD or SSD?
How do I find this out or convert?
again much thanks for your help

>But even now I keep getting the spinning wheel as it gets more frequent over time.
1. Although we don't know the exact cause of the freezes you have, in this case I believe they are related to heavy calculations.
The more elements you have in your project, the more Musescore will slow down.
So if I were you, I would try to split the project into several Musescore files.
If the freezes are not due to your interaction with Musescore, but at regular intervals, it may be related to autosave. You can disable it in the settings and press CTRL+S whenever you deem it necessary.
The problem may be related to a specific project file. In that case, it makes sense to attach it here and we, volunteers, will try to find out if there are problems in the file itself (although this is unlikely)
In my opinion, the number of cores does not significantly affect the performance of Musescore, because heavy calculations occur in one thread and, as a result, in one core. But if Musescore loads your CPU by 100%, then I am wrong.
16GB RAM is good and should be enough, but try to close the web browser and other programs that you do not use. If the operating system does not have enough memory, it will start using the swap file on the disk, which can slow down Musescore (although in the case of ssd this problem should not be noticeable)

Thank you that is hugely appreciated. I'll look into all these things and let you know how I go.
As I said above, I used my dual core system for ages with no problems at all.

Hi thank you so much I think the autosave was the problem I have turned it off and have had a whole day of work with out interruptions!!!
thanks again!
