How do I hide Lyrics or chords in some part views?

• Dec 22, 2024 - 23:09

I have a score with half a dozen instruments that all need to include chords when I print their individual parts but I don't want to see chords repeated on every staff when I print the whole score.
I tried using "invisibility" but if I make any chords invisible in the whole score then they're also invisible in the part scores.
Can I make certain things not print in one view but still print in other views?
Thanks for any guidance.

Ah! I didn't go far enough. I knew that changes in the various views didn't always affect other views of the same material. So when I made the chords invisible in the main score and saw that that made the chords invisible in the part score, too, I drew the wrong conclusion.
What I should have tried was then to toggle the invisibility in the part score, which, it turns out, will not make it visible in the main score.
It wasn't terribly reassuring that the chords became a pale yellow in the part score instead of the black I was hoping for, but on printing I saw that they were black in the pprinted form.
And possibly somewhere in the documetation it is explained that black and pale yellow details are printed in black whereas pale blue details are not printed.
Thanks for the help!

On second thought. . . Being able to exclude the chords from the main score, as described in
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/parts
would be great, but. . . it appears that chords don't have this option; i.e. if a set of chord symbols are selected then the properties > Appearance panel does not include "Exclude from parts" or "Exclude from score".
It is an odd design choice to make this option only available for a few elements of a score.
Thanks anyway,
