how to transpose from Bb clarinet to A clarinet using MuseScore

I need to transpose a Bb clarinet part to an A Clarinet part. How do I Use MuseScore to do that?

Comments

If you have written the Bb clarinet part, simply select the A clarinet instrument under Staff/Part Properties.
The notes will then be transposed automatically.

Or: create a new staff with the A clarinet and copy & paste.

Set up a score with Bb clarinet as the instrument. Make sure that Concert pitch display is turned off. Enter the notes as they appear in the Bb clarinet part. When done, right click in an empty part of the stave and in Stave/Part properties change the instrument to Clarinet in A.

The OP wants to transcribe a source part written in Bb so that it can be played on clarinet in A. If you enter the notes exactly as they look in the source but with concert pitch display on you will end up with the sounding pitches a major second too high. If you enter them with concert pitch display off, they will have the correct pitch. Having the correct pitch, when you change instrument to any other transposition they will remain correct and if concert pitch display is off, they will show at the written pitch appropriate to that transposition.

To transpose a Bb clarinet part to an A clarinet part in MuseScore, select the Bb clarinet part, then go to the "Concert Pitch" button in the toolbar to show concert pitch. Afterward, use the "Transpose" feature in the "Tools" menu. Choose "Up" by a major second (whole step) to correctly transpose the part.
