Sound crackling on musescore 4
I have playback issue on Musescore 4, audio is crackling and popping all the time. I've also read lots of similar topics but I seem to have found the reason. If I decrease sound sample rate from 192 kHz to 48 kHz in Windows sound settings, the issue disappears and it works flawlessly. BUT! It definitely should not do this at all regardless of chosen sound sample rate! Pls fix this ASAP.

There is absolutely nothing to solve the problem. I'm describing the source of the issue, it has nothing to do with buffer size or system requirements (Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD), it's caused by Windows sound settings - MS4 does crackling sounds when using sample rate higher than 48 kHz.
I've already read this but thanks ;)

The bad sound in MS4 was solved as follows
Preferences >> Audie & Midi >> sound >> Buffersize 2048 in stead of 1024
Sound as usual

I don't know if the problem was solved, I'm not able to tell anymore as I have a different PC and Audio with 48kHz sample rate..
but as I've said many times, it has absolutely nothing to do with buffer size, problem is about Muse score not adapting to other-than-48kHz sample rate.
Once and for all, if there was no specific update for it, changing buffer size to whatever value you want, has absolutely no effect. ;)

Also, I just want to add - there is no issue with 48kHz but it's supposed to be a music production software and it should have the setting for higher sample rates just like every other software has

It depends on the system. I can tell you that on some of my systems, changing the buffer absolutely has something to do with it.
Some of my systems have multipole bit rate settings. Some only have 1 or 2.

I don't deny that changing the buffer size can't affect the sound quality. But it's a completely different problem than the one I'm describing. ;)

Here are some things to consider.
MuseScore is not music production software. It is music natation software that is starting to have much better playback possibilities. There have been updates that affect playback. The machine I'm on right now is an i7,16gb, SSD. When version 4 first came out I had to make several setting adjustments. These are listed in the HOW TO. I had to raise the buffer to 4069. With this lates version, Buffer rate makes no difference. But turning off Exclusive mode is still needed. I recently spoke with some one with a more powerful computer. They had tried everything and still had bad sound. On a whim they turned off Hardware Acceleration. Then playback was fine.
I learned long ago that sometimes I have to adjust my computer to the software. I can complain all I want that I shouldn't have to do that. But I've missed the point. Which is finding a way for the machine and the software to work together. This has always been my experience.
I have a few underpowered machines that when MuseScore 4 first came out, I had to use an external usb audio device to get any playback that was passible. Now playback works with a slight studder on starting playback. Not ideal. But once playback starts, it is fine.
Everyone has their own philosophy. With MuseScore, mine is, when I run into a problem, I figure out what I have to do to make it work. Should I have to is not a question for me. I just want it to work.

The problem is when you are using multiple softwares at the same time and you need full control over audio, you simply can't toggle audio settings everytime you wish to switch program. And I want them to know about the problem, that the sample rate switch is missing in the settings and that it is an essential thing because it's the one that's causing all the troubles with audio playback. Buffer size is just an amount of audio data that can be processed at the same time and its value depends on the system specifications as well. And changing it makes no difference because the audio crackling and stuttering are from the "conversion" between different sample rates. It's a simple thing to add, that's my point. ;)

OK, so I hooked up my Focusrite which has settings as high as 192. I only set the sample rate to 96. Playback in MuseScore was fine.
Earlier versions of MuseScore 4 had problems with this setting. But 4.4.4 does not. I used to have to use the Focusrite just to get playback. But not any more. Even on my under-powered machines. Of course none have a rate setting above 48, however.

Windows 10 - MuseScore 4.4.4. This adjustment fixed my crackling sound problem immediately. Thanks.
