Score becomes corrupted
I'm trying to produce several lines of monophonic chant. I successfully achieved what I wanted (chantsGerman.pdf), but when I reopened the file, it was corrupted (project file attached). I fixed the first line and saved it, but when I reopened it, it was corrupted again (chantsGerman-corrupted.pdf). What's going on, and how can I prevent it from happening? Some of the measures are working fine.

Perhaps try this from the manual instead.
Working with non-metered music #
Early music, such as renaissance choral music, may be written without barlines or a time signature. This can be achieved in MuseScore as follows:
Set up the instruments or voices of the score in the usual way (See Setting up your score);
Hide the time signature;
in Format→Style→Score, check the box titled "Display note values across measure boundaries";
Right-click on a measure in the top staff and select Staff/Part properties;
Uncheck "Show barlines"; repeat this for each applicable staff (see note);
Click OK.

Thanks for the suggestion. This music will ultimately be inserted between passages of polyphony, in which your suggestion would not be acceptable. So, I think I have to make it work this way. Also something is clearly not behaving as it should.

Do not delete the time signature, instead disable it in staff properties

If that's what's causing the problem, why aren't all the measures corrupted? Also why is it possible to do if it corrupts the score?

Because...
Just don't do it.
In absence of any time signature MuseScore assumes 4/4

That's odd since the measures that are working are 18/8 and 15/8.
So how would you fix it from here? Just add a time signature at the beginning and then readjust the length of the measures?

Maybe you can start with this file:
I changed the meter to 9/4. Not everything is the same, but it saves without corruption. Not sure why. Yes very odd.

So actually, there is a 4/2 time signature there, and I did already uncheck "Show time signature" in the staff properties. So you're theory must not be the problem. I'm going to file a bug report.

Yes I know the meter was 4/2. I changed it as an experiment. I think the problem is how you entered the notes to begin with. If you used "Insert" instead of "Step time", that is a problem.
Edit
OK the problem is that you imported that PDF.

No, I did not import the PDF. I created the PDF before I saved the file the first time (thank goodness).

Please, I'm just trying to help. Please tell me how you created this score. I don't have much to go on. I can only guess. It looks to me that the way you created it was incorrect. It looks like you inserted too many notes into most every measure. That's why the file is corrupt. It doesn't make any difference what the meter is. This file will never, ever work.
The instructions don't say to delete the time signature. It can de hidden in the same page where you hide barlines.
Here is a very rough ( very, very rough) idea of what is possible. Take a look at the soprano part, which can be labeled whatever you want. Did I mention "very rough".

"Hide" (AKA make invisible) and "Don't show" are different things though

I don't think anyone mentioned "don't show".

I did. That's what you do in staff properties

OK I was just using the term from the manual. Yes the Staff Properties window says "don't show". You also said "disable" Which might be considered different, also. I don't know why the manual instructions start out that way. Isn't the manual perfect? Gosh! :)
