Unexplained behaviour

• Sep 25, 2017 - 20:23

I'm re-noting some hymn tunes so that I can see them better (500 done, 5,000? still to go)

One tune is attached as "Kedron" and it's laid out ok, but note the changes of Time Signatures. However, to balance the two lines I decided to split bar 4 before the last beat. I highlighted the soprano "B", clicked on "Edit" and then "split bar".
"Kedron 2" (also attached) is what I get.
I don't understand why MS has placed a Time Signature of 4:4 at the beginning of the split bar which is (and should remain) 3:4
The 4:4 Time Signature is from the original bar 5 and I see no reason why it should be removed just by splitting a previous bar.

Any suggestions what I've misunderstood or done incorrectly.

Looks like a bug indeed. What's happening is that MuseScore is internally deleting the original measure and inserting two ones in their place. And inserting a measure right before a time signature change has the effect of taking on that new time signature - exactly what you want half the time.

Anyhow, workaround is simple - after this happens, select the two partial measures and double click the 3/4 in the palette to reapply that time signature to the range. The 4/4 is automatically reinstated afterwards, and all is as it should be.

Meanwhile, feel free to file this as an official bug report via the issue tracker (eg, Help / Report a Bug, from within MuseScore).
