Playback Not Available on Ubuntu
I run Musescore 2.0.3 on Ubuntu. The problem is, the option to playback is grayed out, and so is View -> Synthesizer. I even have gawk installed. When I open the program from the terminal, here's the output:

Is PulseAudio installed on your system? What happens if you switch to Alsa (via menu edit->preferences...) resp. if you install Alsa sound system?

Not sure if PulseAudio is installed, switching to Alsa doesn't fix it.

Which sound system are you using (it should be shown in system settings of your desktop environment)?

I don't see an installed sound system. Are you hear something if press the button "test sound" in sound settings?
It seems to me that you've to install PulseAudio or Alsa.
(I'm using Linux but not Ubuntu)

No, I don't hear anything. What should I install? If I can do it with the terminal, I'd prefer to.

As mentioned I'm not using Ubuntu and don't know which version you're using. Maybe something like this should work: https://www.howtoinstall.co/en/ubuntu/xenial/pulseaudio

I'm using 16.04. PulseAudio is installed and in the newest version; it's still not working (and neither is the "Test Sound" button).

Something changes if you restart Pulseaudio: https://askubuntu.com/questions/15223/how-can-i-restart-pulseaudio-with…? Any other sound application opened that's blocked the sound output?
