old score has problems when opened.
I made this score a few years back but it has problems opening on updated version.

No problem here, and according to score properties it has last been saved with MuseScore 2.1, and been created /imported yesterday, so hardly a few years back?
I'm pretty sure though that it has been imported from MuseScore 1.x.

Hmm, MuseScore 1.2. And stems look much longer in 2.1 than the other score you posted, also notes and other stuff is missing in that other score and a different rhythm altogether, so it clearly is not a plain import of that 1.2 score into 2.1

1.3 I have never removed it. (0.96 is the pc in the basement)
Much changed about how drumsets are represented between 1.x and 2.x. We try to fix things up automatically as much as can when importing old scores, but three-line staves with double spacing are a known problem indeed.
