You have somehow muted the sound of musescore. Look in the synthesizer which is listed in the view menu. You can also check you system volumes to see if you muted MuseScore there.

NOPE DIDN'T WORK :(
My system is iOS

So I guess you're a victim of #234811: No sound on Mac and Windows, I/O's PortAudio API drop down menu empty
Edit: oops, iOS... so you're talking about the MuseScore Songbook app?
In reply to NOPE DIDN'T WORK :(… by muriel.li20
BTW, I assume you mean macOS. iOS is iPhone and iPad, but MuseScore does not run on those devices. There is a third party service called rollApp that allows you to run MuseScore remotely on their server and interact with it via your web browser, and it is true their service does not currently support sound. So if that's what you are talking about, then I'm afraid that's just how it is for now. You can contact rollApp support for more info.
If you are dealing with Muse Score 2 on MacOS, check IO in Preferences under the MuseScore menu item. Check that the device listed for PortAudio is Built-in Output or whatever device you are actually using. My menu currently contains Built-in Output, Built-in Microph, Soundflower (2ch), and Soundflower(64ch), with Built-in Output being currently selected. The other options are for special cases where you desire to pipe the sound to another application.
Did the sound output work before? If it never worked, you can try deleting and reloading the software. If nothing else works, you can try that anyway.
Did you ever get your sound issue settled? My sound worked this morning...but, now no playback sound. Hope I can get some assistance!

In the next few hours version 2.2 should be released and from what I've heard fixes sound issues on Macs.

I've downloaded OS: Windows , Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (32-bit): 2.2.0, revision: 21646c1...however, it may have fixed the sound issue, but DIDN'T fix the issue with the toolbars being WAY TOO small in print...the way I get around this is by using "C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore 2\bin\MuseScore.exe" -x1

That issue with high DPI screens is an entirely different beast indeed. You do have a good workaround though, it seems...
And the sounds issues were (mainly?) on Macs

Then download again, to get 2.2, which you missed by a few hours ;-)
OK, I just downloaded and installed MuseScore 2.2. Now when I use it to open a previously created MuseScore file, there is no playback sound. When I use it to create a new MuseScore file, there is no playback sound. The problem isn't with my system: I can still play the mp3 files stored on my hard disk and streaming files on SoundCloud fine. I made no changes at all to MuseScore 2.2 after installing it.
So what can I do to get sound?

Open the Synthesizer, load the soundfont.

See https://musescore.org/en/node/96811 for possibilities. I'm guessing that you need a factory reset to clear out damaged settings leftover from 2.1.

The Synthesizer was empty when first installed. I used the 'Add' button and set it as default. Sound is back without rebooting or factory reset

FYI, the name of the default soundfont changed between 2.1 and 2.2. So I'm guessing you had made a change to your own default synthesizer settings and the change in name of the soundfont was getting in the way. If you don't want a full revert to factory settings, simply loading the proper soundfount (MuseScore_General.sf3) should do the trick

That seems to have workec. I have no idea how the synthesizer settings got changed.
In reply to FYI, the name of the default… by Marc Sabatella
No, spoke too soon. Further experimentation indicates that if I add MuseScore_General.sf3 to the Fluid tab in the Synthesizer box in MS 2.2, this enables playback sound ONLY for that score in that session. If I save the score and load it again, there is no playback, the Fluid tab is again empty, and if I load a score I had made previously with MS 2.1, again there is no playback and the Fluid tab is empty. In other words, it looks like I have to reset the Fluid tab every time I load a score made previously with either 2.1 or 2.2.
Is this really true? Obviously what should happen, and what user expectation is, is that I should only have to change the Fluid box once, and all scores would then have that sound font forever after. In other words, there should be a default sound font set. Isn't there a way to do this?

Once you load a soundfont it should stay loaded for the duration of that session - until you fully quit MuseScore, not just close the score. And if you press Set As Default after loading a soundfont, that change should be completely permanent, surviving quit / restart as well.
So my hope / guess is that you are actually quitting Muse score and not just closing your score, and you didn't hit Set As Default and that's why the change isn't sticking. Furthermore I would like to believe you had previously messed with this in 2.1 and that's why everything isn't working seamlessly as it is supposed to.

Thanks, apparently I forgot to hit set as default; doing that seems to work at making it permanent.
I may well have changed the loaded sound font in 2.1 at some point way back when, but just don't remember it.
But shouldn't MuseScore_General.sf3 be loaded as the default by the 2.2 install program even if there has been a change to the sound font of 2.1 in the distant past? If there was, having the 2.2 install program just have no default sound font loaded seems confusing. Maybe MuseScore_General.sf3 should be loaded as default with a msg to the user.

It is the default in 2.2, unless you had previously changed it yourself. Hence the last part of my previous comment. Not sure what you might have done in 2.1, but apparently some leftover customized setting was getting the way. people who hasn't customized their shjth settings in 2.1 wouldn't see any issue, and actually customizing isn't a problem in itself. Something about the specific customization you did is apparently the issue. Would help if you could provide insight into what customizations you had done to synth settings.

Thanks for the further explanation. I'm afraid I can't add anything more except for a vague memory that at some time in the past I experimented with changing to different sound fonts.
