Voices change whenever uploading?

So I'm uploading an old piece I arranged a while back, but Musescore is doing something scummy. It's changing the sound of every single instrument, something it's never done before. I've tried uploading it 3 times and each time it comes out sounding entirely different. The piano is more muffled, the violin is more profound, etc etc.

What the hell is going on?

About a week before 2.2.1 was released the default MuseScore.com playback sound font was changed. I suspect that is what you are hearing.

If you don't use version 2.2.1 then you need to add the lame library to your computer. See: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/file-formats#mp3 for info on that.

Once that is done, if you use Save Online... you can check the Upload Score Audio box to make what playback from online uses the same sound font you did. You can also click the 3 dots next to the score title on line and select manage audio sources to upload your sound. I haven't used it, but I'm sure it works.

That doesn't make sense. It's literally uploading an MP3 of your score as created on your own computer. Whatever version of MuseScore you use, whatever soundfont you have installed that's what will create the MP3. So it should be identical to what you are hearing. If not, something else must be going on.

FWIW, the new sounds are intended to be improvements, and most people find them to be pretty significantly better. Sometimes though just the mere idea of change takes people by surprise. So I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to override the defaults. Give yourself a chance to get used to them and you may find, as most others do, that you really do like them better! Also keep in mind, things sound different through different speakers, and a soundfont that was optimized to sound good an crappy computer speakers may sound bad on better speakers and vice versa.
