Notation and playback of fingers snap
Hi,
could somebody tell me please:
- how to notate the fingers snap and
- if there is (in the default) soundbank a sound of the fingers snap, so I can hear it during playback?

Unless it's called something really strange I didn't find a default sound called Snap or Finger Snap.
To notate this use an Instrument Change (found in the Text palette). Change the instrument to anything you like, then in the mixer change the sound to something that sounds similar such as Castanets. Change the Instrument Change text to Finger snaps or something similar. Enter notes and change the heads to crosses using the inspector. Change the Note Head group to Cross. This is the standard notation for a musician to do almost anything that isn't normal for the instrument, especially when it's unpitched like finger snaps, claps, foot stomps...

Thank you for your reply. I have one more question:
wouldn't be possible to add the fingers snap sound to the MuseScore default soundbank?

The person who is developing the new sound font would have to answer that. He seems to watch the forums, so he may answer.

Ahoj @Vehudis!
If you check out a recently nightly build, you will see that that percussion is now divided into:
Percussion - Pitched
Percussion - Unpitched
Percussion - Marching
Percussion - Body
In "Percussion - Body" you have all types of body percussion - hand claps, finger snaps, foot stomps, etc.
These sounds should be added in an upcoming soundfont and there will be a new guide for percussion notation that will describe best practices for notating body percussion, along with a wide range other types of percussion.

@Daniel: Any progress on this? Anything ready in time for 3.0?
I just yesterday had the need for finger snap, but got the sound of Claves instead

I was going to suggest claves in a pinch, but rejected the idea because in my mind it's too crisp for a finger snap. (This is where functional/individual chorus and reverb as appears in the mixer would really come in handy.)

i think it is amazing that we have 'breath noise' and 'sea shore' sound patch options but not finger snap?? I'm not criticising as i appreciate all the work that goes into MS.

MuseScore uses the General MIDI standard, created around 30 years and in pretty universal use ever since. So the widely-available soundfonts only include the sounds specified by this standard. but there are plenty of specialty soundfonts you could find, install, and use that are not General MIDI compliant but might include any other sounds you might want.

No, that's MIDi itself. General MIDI was published in 1991. As I understood it at the time, they basically took the sound collection Roland was implementing for their Sound Canvas and standardized it.

Ah, I see
I have the same issue =)
A visual solution for now - attached.
I hope one day this can be added to the Playback sounds as a customizable Metronome,'
as well as added to the instrument list sounds,

One way is to write the notes for the original instrument. Then select them and uncheck the "Play" option so that the instrument itself is muted for finger snap. Then change the note header to a cross or what ever.
For the sound, you can add a separate instrument system that produces the sound.
In MuS 3.6.2 you can hide this staff but it is still playing. Not yet implemented in MuS 4 as far as I know.

MU4 offers the ability to hide either the entire instrument or just staves individually, a new capability not found in MU3 or older versions. To have a staff play but not be seen, simply hides the staff without hiding the instrument.
