Repeat differences
Is there a way to add text such as "2nd time only" in a repeated section, so that it only plays the written notes on the 2nd repeat.

No. You can add the text, but you have to decide if you want MuseScore to play it both or neither times.

This seems like a possible per staff property, yeah?

more a repeats property. You may have more than one repeat in the score and not want the 'play 2nd time only' on all of them
