that many (visible) fermatas next to one another certaínly are a corner case, if not artificial at all
I guess it worth considering if fermatas should be considered in note spacing.

My vote would be yes. Two fermatas in a row are not in every song, but I wouldn't consider them a corner case either.
The problem is not two but many more in too narrow measures
