A note and a rest simultaneously?

I'm trying to transcribe "The Yankee Doodle Boy" and I've come across this problematic measure. It's easy for a person reading it to understand why the half note is there, but the program obviously doesn't want to put it there normally since it would exceed the set number of beats per measure. I must admit I'm not very knowledgeable about this, and for now all I can do is put a quarter note as a placeholder, but I was wondering if there was a way to get the half note in there?
