Lost all scores

• Feb 27, 2019 - 21:30

Entire contents of the Scores folder in MuseScore2 just disappeared. I'm on windows 10. Searched computer for "MuseScore2 scores". Search quickly produced the contents (apparently) of the folder (ie all the scores, both mscz and pdf, but didn't show it's location. I closed the search to create a folder to copy it all to and when I returned to the search there was no sign of any of the material. Searched computer for mscz and .mscz, but came up emptyhanded.
Pretty devastating.
Can anyone help me?

The only way your scores folder is empty is that if someone or something besides MuseScore emptied it, so I don't believe that to be the case.

Did you upgrade to version 3? If so, version 2 is still on your computer if you did not uninstall it or go into the file manager and delete it. It would be located at C:\Program Files (x86)\MuseScore 2\bin and can be run from there or you can create a new shortcut for it. Once you open version 2, you will see your version 2 scores. If I'm correct, then read https://musescore.org/en/node/283922. If you did not install version 3, then please let's continue this conversation.

Thank you Mike
I found my scores! They had somehow relocated to a file labelled Movies. Huge relief, though I don't understand how that happened. Perhaps I hit a key unknowingly that was a command - it has happened before.

At any rate, I copied them all and pasted them back into MuseScore2 Scores, which is located in My Documents, and all seems mended. I also saved that whole folder into my external hard drive while I was at it. There are over 500 items, and I like to have access to the transposable/editable versions because i play in a few bands and occasionally someone wants one in a new key.

I do have MuseScore3 downloaded and have copied a few MuseScore2 song files into it's Scores folder/file without problems. I assume that I should move all my scores there. So far the two versions work without interfering with each other. I have had them both open on split screen and dragged a 2 score into 3 to good advantage.

Thanks again for your thoughtful reply
Dick

I'm very glad you found your scores. You have the option of converting scores to version 3 if you want to. If you have not made a lot of manual adjustment, it will be straight forward. A lot of people make manual adjustments and don't like the different view. For those people, keep your version 2 scores in version 2, there is nothing wrong with them.

Thanks again
This helps me chart my next steps. I think I qualify as a manual adjuster, so I'll convert a score to 3 and see how I feel about the result. I was afraid the MuseScore2 charts might become obsolete somehow. But it seems from what you say that there is no downside to taking the easy way out and leaving everything where it is. I like that idea!
Cheers

I thought I had that problem too but it turns out that the default path for M3 (musecore version 3) is a different path. I looked and there is a path for both M2 and M3 and all my previous scores are still in the M2 folder.
