MIDI Issue
Hi, Gang!!!
I use MuseScore 3.0.4 in Ubuntu Studio 18.04.2 LTS (64 bit Linux).
I connect my old Casio CTK-601 MIDI Synthesizer to my PC and I tried to use it with MuseScore.
Even the fact that MuseScore recognize the device (I can enter notes with the external keyboard, so fine), MuseScore apparently doesn't give any signal to the Casio device.
I test it with three tools:
1) The MIDI USB Interface lights (USB light doesn't light, the others are on when I play something in the keyboard).
2) An electronic tester in the USB port and... I have signal when I play something in the keyboard but I don't get signal when MuseScore plays something!!!
3) I used an standard MIDI file into RoseGarden (a MIDI software) and... I got all the sounds I wanted from my Casio keyboard!!!
So... It isn't something in the connection between the external synthesizer and my PC and Linux system.
I went to the MuseScore mixer, and I changed the MIDI ports and channel numbers and... Nothing!!!
I changed the Audio and MIDI devices, into the MuseScore "Preferences" menu, and I tested with PulseAudio, PortAudio and ALSA, but... Nothing!!!
I expected to get sounds from the Casio synthesizer, but... I just got sounds from the internal MuseScore synthesizer!!!
What I missed ??? What is wrong here???

I don't use a keyboard or a physical connection at a USB port. But I know you can hook up for note entry. This was developed way before midi out so I don't know how related or independent they are. So, what shows up in the I/o preferences dropdown ? I use Windows and have a virtual cable to move data between devices. I make sure I am receiving midi with blinking lights or monitoring bars like you. I actually don't want to HEAR anything at first. But I want to SEE it. This is not always that easy because I have noticed that the Msc transport greys out if there is no audio port available.
I don't know how the Casio works so I don't understand #3. I playback mscz files to transfer the midi data to a DAW which records the data or to a soft synth which outputs audio. Sometimes I mix a couple of audio outs and include Fluid's as one of them. I like to write music in notation. I don't know any other way to WRITE it. (So. I love Musescore) I then use the play panel as a transport mechanism. (like a tape machine)

I don't know what to say: I don't know if this is a bug (I don't think so).
The fact is that I can touch a key into the Casio keyboard and MuseScore recognize it so fine.
But... There is not any kind of signal into the USB port from MuseScore to the external Casio keyboard.
I don't know what to say!!!
To be clear - you selected your keyboard in the MIDI Output section of Edit / Preferences / I/O? That should work. I guess, be sure your Casio includes a 64-bit driver.

I selected my USB MIDI output in that tab.
I don't know how the Casio synthesizer works inside (8, 16, 24, 32, 64, 128 bit) but... I assume this is not the point because it works so fine with Rosegarden (a Linux MIDI software) in the same PC!!!
As I told before, I tested the MIDI port and there is not any signal in the moment we expected to have one (because MuseScore is playing a tune).
Maybe it is a Linux environment MuseScore 3.0.4 issue, only???

Are you using a 64-bit version of Rosegarden? If not, that could explain why it can see a 32-bit driver but MuseScore cannot.

I don't know!!!
My Linux system is 64 bit and I assume that all (or most) of the software preinstalled here is 64 bit, too.
BTW: The RoseGarden preinstalled version is: 17.12.1, and works with Qt 5.9.3. I don't know if that data helps.

Unfortunately, not really. I am not sure how you'd go about checking that, but right now, that's still my best guess - your MIDI driver is only 32-bit, and so is RoseGarden. Or maybe you have a 32-bit build of MuseScore and the others are 64.

I use MuseScore 3.0.5 Rev. 58dd23d Portable AppImage, and this is 64 bit (according to MuseScore download page).
All my UbuntuStudio system is 64 bit, too.
I was on the RoseGarden official webpage and, even the fact that there is not any data about this point, it is available to 64 bit Linux systems, only.
I tested my Casio keyboard, with the same USB/MIDI Interface into a WIndows 10 PC, with Anvil Studio and... The Casio keyboard works so fine!!!
So...
