Mac numeric keypad shortcut not working correctly
I attempted to create a shortcut for the main note entry “button” on my Mac numeric keypad. It is standard on the regular keyboard as “N.” It toggles on and off, as it should. All good. But when I attempt to add the same shortcut on my numeric keypad - it does, in fact, turn on. All good - except it DOESN’T toggle back off like the main keyboard "N."
Any thoughts, anyone?

Do you have the same shortcut assigned to a plugin by chance?

Have never used a plugin. Just went to the shortcut menu. Found the note entry line. Put in a numeric keypad entry. Worked great, except the toggle didn't. Am I supposed to create a new plugin? Don't know how that works?

HOLD THE FORT... Found that if I "replace" the "N" shortcut on my main keyboard with one on the numeric keypad, it does toggle. Apparently it must require one - or the other. No both.

Plugins don't report conflicts with other shortcuts and has been know to have symptoms you reported, so forget the plugins.
You do need to replace the N shortcut for toggle note input mode rather than simply defining the shortcut for "Enter notes using..." or whatever that terrible name is.

Well... I spoke too soon. Had it working by replacing the "N" on the keyboard. When I restarted the program, I apparently didn't save the shortcut. Now I can't replace the "N" on the keyboard, because it doesn't show up the shortcut list. It's blank (in the old shortlist box). When I define the input with the Keypad number - it turns on, but not off. Don't know what happened. Frustrated.
I have since been able to add the correct shortcut for note entry on the numeric keyboard - that toggles correctly. However it doesn't retain that setting on restart. Any thoughts on how to make it permanent?

You changed the shortcut to toggle note input on and off? How did you do that?

Created the shortcut here. But it doesn’t retain it after startup

Oh, I was expecting it to have toggle in the name since that what it does.
When MuseScore closes normally, the shortcuts, workspace modifications and so forth are saved, when it crashes they are not saved. Have you closed MuseScore normally after making the change?

Yes. And the shortcut is not saved.

The note entry and toggle works just fine in Musescore 2. The problem is in version 3.

Works fine for me. What shortcut are you trying to define - maybe that's the problem? Some key combinations may reserved by the OS or cause other undetected conflicts.

It works fine for me too, but on startup the shortcut isn't saved.

Let me clarify my previous statement. The "keyboard" shortcut does work fine. It's the "numeric keypad" assigned shortcut that is the problem - It works correctly just as long as the file is open. With a new file, or restarting the program, the shortcut is not saved. Thus having to create it all over again.

I don't have a numeric keypad and I don't recognize the shortcut you assigned. But to be clear: for me when I assigned a shortcut to note input, it works fine both immediately and after closing and restarting MuseScore. So the question is, does this work for you if you simply use a different shortcut - something less hardware-specific?

The numeric keypad shortcut is the "enter" key on the keypad. That is what is shown in the pic below. The "N" on the regular keyboard always works. But note entry (for me) is quicker on a keypad. Probably need to broaden the scope of my question. Thanks, just the same.

That explains it. The numeric enter key is no doubt reserved by the operating system and you need to find a different shortcut.

Actually, no. I use all the note durations on the keypad. It is very convenient.

Then you will need to continue to reassign the shortcut every time you open a score. If the operating system reserves a shortcut, like the enter key, it cannot be assigned permanently. I would consider something like * or - on the numeric key pad.

Perhaps a programmer will notice this and check it out. It should work.

I hope so. Meanwhile ver. 2 works just fine.
