Notes longer than whole
How to add notes longer than the whole note: maxima, longa, etc. If i want really long violin or contrabass move, that means I just have to do a lot of wholes with slurs?

Join the selected measures to get something like that
See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/note-input#note-rest-duration
Of course the time signature or actual measure duration nooed to have enough space for that many beats, a simple 4/4 won't do without ties.

Numpad isn't needed, the regular numbers are sufficient
As is the toolbar, so even mouse entry is possibe
When I want 4 (or more) 4/4 measures of tied notes I'll often set the duration to 9, then enter the note to get 16 beats of tied notes. It works for other time signatures also, and musescore changes the notes to the appropriate duration as needed.
On important thing, MuseScore distinguishes between a tie (2 notes of the same pitch) and a slur (as many notes as you need with any pitches). Tied notes are treated as one while slurred notes are still treated as individual notes.
