note duration assignment using midi keyboard
Ho All,
Have new keyboard which I can use to type in music. Manual says I should be able to assign midi keys to (durations, dots, ties, ...). The last bit is not working, although durations (...) can be set using computer keyboard.
Checked the Preferences pane, assigned keys to (...) and restarted. Still not working. Any ideas? Thank you.

You used Edit / Preferences / Note Input, following the instructions in the Handbook? Can you show a picture of the dialog? Should see a bunch of green dots showing that the shortcut is assigned.

Indeed I did. NOTE that I am running prerelease 3.1 on Mac OS X 10.11.
Here is a screenshot of the dialog with the green dots. Interestingly, these can NOT be reset to defaults….green dots persist after initial selection. And, I did restart after setting this up.
Another odd feature is that having selected a note duration on the keyboard, it will NOT persist; gets changed to whole note each time ???

Looks good (although it seems you are running an "unstable prerelease", better to install the official version,
When you say "having selected a note duration on the keyboard, it will NOT persist; gets changed to whole note each time", I am not understanding this, but it kind of makes me think you might be doing something wrong. Have you used regular (non-MIDI) input? Just as with the mouse or computer keyboard, you need to frist go to note input note, then select duration, then enter the pitch.
Is that what you are doing? If so, what happens at the moment you select the duration - does the toolbar update correctly to show the selected duration? Then when you enter the pitch, is it now entered correctly?

Hi. Can I run current vs on mac osx 10.11?
After assigning uppermost keyboard keys to durations, when I choose one ans enter a note on keybd the duration is changed to whole note at the correct pitch.
I out right now and can continue tomorrow. I thank you gour your help!

OK. Here is today's run using vs 3.2.1. Something is amiss. This is a new Casio PXS-1000 keyboard I just purchased, mac OSX 10.11.

After considerable experimentation, it looks like only 1 duration gets assigned no matter which key I press on Casio. F7,G7,A7 assigned to 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 durations. Pressing any of these keys gives a 1/4 note. Also cursor advances even though I opted out of that on pref pane.

Hi Marc. Just tried vs 3.2.3.22971 with the same result:
Assignment of keys to note durations does note work properly. Looks to me that the last key/duration gets assigned to all keys used for duration assignment.
