Adding a dotted note to be played simultaneous with a tied note removes the tied note instead of leaving it

I have an F tied from the first bar that remains while a dotted D is played. If I add a D, it adds it fine, but if i add a dotted D, it removes the tie. There are other issues, but this is the main one i am facing at the moment.

I am very new to composing and this program.
