Help require as i am really stuck with this score

I am really struggling with this score that i am working with, hoping one of you can help.

I have marked two areas on the attached photo, one in Red and one in Blue

  1. How do i get the Rest (7) to go before any notes as in the photo ?

  2. How do i input all the notes in the blue circle, when i try to add the two double notes above the lyrics (Oh. My Soul. So) i either get four notes joined or i run out of space and it shoves me onto the next bar. ?

Please if you could keep all replies very simple as i am struggling to understand and only a beginner at this.

Jojo, i am aware as you stated (I have already been told !) but as a beginner i am struggling to get to grips with it.
It probably seems very easy to those of you that understand Music theory and this program fully, but i do not and am trying my hardest to understand, this is why i posted this 2nd question with the photo to hopefully get some kind person to help me understand where i am going wrong.

I understand you must get asked these questions time and time again, but we do not all learn at the same pace. I have already read the handbook but just can't seem to work out where i am going wrong at the moment.

Maybe another member will be kind enough to explain in step by step rather that just post a link to the handbook which i have already read.

Create the song with 4/4 measures. In the first measure, enter a half rest (click "half note", type 0), then an eighth-rest (click "eighth note", then type 0), then start entering the notes, starting with the Bb (type B, lower it an octave with ctrl-downarrow, or use the mouse). You enter the notes you want first, and add lyrics later with ctrl-L. The handbook and videos will serve you well, though.

Can anyone help me out with this please, i am really struggling as to how i get the symbol on the 7th note along, and also when i try to put a dotted note on the 8th note notes vanish or join together.

I did not want to bother any of you with this but i have spent 3 days trying to work this out on my own and reading up what i could understand in the help pages yet i am still stuck. would appreciate a bit of help please as i am trying so hard to understand MuseScore as it looks a fantastic program.

Personally, as a visual person, I find it easier to use the graphical interface rather than keyboard shortcuts. Select the N (on the far left to enter notes), then the 16th note, then place the note on the staff. Then back to select the 8th note, then to the right to select the "dot" (looks like a period). Place that on the staff on the rest to the right of the 16th note. They are connected by a beam automatically. Slower that shortcuts. But if you are just starting out, you can see what you are trying to do.
Another personal note. I find the manual to not always be very clear. It tends to assume that you already have knowledge about various things. It is there to tell you how they apply to MuseScore. That's fine if you have that previous knowledge. For example, I would like to delve into adjusting the synthesizer. But the manual doesn't help me much. Again, I know the manuals job is to apply what you know to MuseScore.

I also started by using the mouse. The more I learned the more I started practicing with the keyboard and now rarely use the mouse, so you are not that unusual in my opinion.

If this were classical music, I'd say that the sixteenths notes followed by longer notes on the same syllable a note lower, e.g., "falls" in m 12, should be written as "grace notes", but it's not. And I'd say that notes on different syllables should not be beamed together, but in non-classical music, it's less common, and the beamed notes are easier to read.

As always your advice and input is so much appreciated BSG
I think this score is one of those for someone that is just starting out with MuseScore about a 7 on the difficulty level out of 10.
But i have moved on from just working with simple scores and really want to push myself with this one and keep aiming to achieve my understanding a bit more each day.
Yes i will make mistakes and probably the same ones time and time again, but that's how i learn and get it to sink in by repetition and trying to digest as much of the help manuals as i can understand at my level.

Hi,
Just thought i would come back and thank you again for the helpful tips you have given me, i am now starting to understand MuseScore better and able to work through scores much quicker now.
I occasionally make the odd error now and then but am able to quickly spot and correct them now.
Thanks to you and my reading the help pages over and over i am really pleased with progress.
