It is not in the handbook, as it is not a function of MuseScore, but one of your operating system.

As long as the score is on your computer, the score will remain in the start center until enough scores have been opened so it falls off of the list. If you really want to delete it, you must use the file manager for your computer rather than MuseScore. Once the file is deleted from your computer, it will no longer appear in the start center.

well evidently its a consequence of using musescore so it would be helpful to have it in the handbook.

Think of the computer as a huge filing cabinet. It can store spreadsheets, pictures, audio files, videos, MuseScore compositions, e-books, etc. All such different types of 'content' are created and/or manipulated by the various installed software applications.
The 'content' files are not "on the app" as you say, but rather are located in folder(s) that an app accesses when loading, editing, and saving file(s).
Deleting any type of file is such a universally generic task that it falls under 'computer help' rather than 'MuseScore help'.
See, for example:
https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000743.htm
To continue...
The computer's recycle bin icon fills with the discarded files - similar to using an actual filing cabinet and trash can.
But first, you must locate the drawer (in the filing cabinet) or the folder (on the computer) to find the file you wish to discard.
The MuseScore folder which contains your scores is specified here:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/preferences#general
(This much is in the handbook.)

thanks, this is very clear and very helpful. i can't exactly understand the last part which tells me which folder the scores are in. i seem to remember there was some sort of default setting when i set it up and i bguess that is where they are, but how do i find that setting?

Use menu item: Edit→Preferences... and on the 'General' tab look to the 'Folders' section for 'Scores:'
See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/preferences
There you will find the path to the location of your scores. It shows which drive to access, and through which folders to sequentially navigate using the file explorer.

i am still having a problem. i followed this and found some scores there, which i think were saved in some special way, but not all of the ones which show up when i go to start center. on the other hand, when i go to the file explorer via WIN + E it shows all of them, but i cannot delete any from there.

Very confusing. i think thee were files i cicked Save for but who knows!
if these are the autosace files (when are THEY saved?) where are the files kept when i click Save, when with Save As, etc.
i don't know why this is so complicated!

Every open score is saved there every 2 minutes default and removed once it got save and closed properly

Autosave files only appear in your list if you experience a crash. Otherwise you never normally need to know they are there. If there is a crash and on the next startup you choose to recover your previous sessions, then you will actually be working on that autosaved version. In such cases, it is best to explicitly save them to the folder of your choice. Otherwise, you are actually working on this autosave file in that special folder you normally shoujldn't even see.
So, after recovering from a crash, it is best to do an explicit "Save As" after verifying your recovered file looks good. In some cases, MuseScore can automatically re-associate that recovered file with the original and a simple save will do, but it doesn't always work, so better safe than sorry.

I think you would be well served to turn off "Show hidden files" in your file explorer because having it turned on causes you confusion. The files that end with a comma are hidden.
how to delete the autosave score? it is so annoying can you please tell me how?

You delete those files the same as any other, but, what exactly is the problem you are having with them? They are in a hidden folder you'd never normally see. They protect you against crashes. What is the downside here?
If you prefer to not be protected against crashes, you can turn off the autosave feature in Edit / Preferences / General. Then those files in that folder you would never normally be seeing anyhow won't be generated any more.
