Eighth notes in pairs
Brand new to musescore but find it pretty user friendly so far. How do you make eighth notes appear in pairs instead of groups of four. I clicked on the eighth note and it showed up on the score in groups of four. How do I change that? Surely there is an option for making the eighths in groupings of 2 or 4. Thank you!

Read both to see which is better for your situation.
There doesn't appear to be any easy way to do it. I've been trying for months and been unsuccessful. Having 4 eighth notes in a row either allows for them to be separated or all locked together. Sometime I can get it to work by selecting two eighth notes and separating them, then using the AUTO feature to separate them into pairs of eighth notes. But it only works sometimes.

Can you attach a sample score and explain the results you want. It's easier than what you are describing.

Did you read both of the articles in the post above? The one on changing default beaming is probably what you want, but both work, not just sometimes, but always.

I want to do the opposite. A downloaded piece came in with no beams between eighth notes. How do I do that? Please make it step-by-step, Don't assume I know anything about this new version 3.
Thanks!

If beaming is not restored do the following
Beams will now follow the time signature.

And even the rests will be beamed! What a miracle!
I wish there were a way to do this without this feature. Yes, rests can be beamed, and there are times whey you want that. But there ought be a way of saying "Rebeam, me, Scotty!" without capturing the rests.

Ooops, I forgot the final step, in the inspector (press F8 to see it) click the notes button and press ctrl+r. This will finish the beam reset.
Selecting only the notes prevents other items from being reset. And this does work in version 2 also.

What's the control-r in there for? I did "select the region, click 'notes', click 'auto'" and got the desired effect.

$^&* you can't press the notes button to select only the notes, you have to omit that step and pressing ctrl+r restores the beams without the rests being beamed. Unfortunately the ctrl+a selects everything so all customizations are undone.

No change on this vs MuseScore 2
