Do you have the MDL extension installed?
If so (and other pots from you indicate that) this is to be expected, loading, and esp. uncompressing those large MDL soundfont files into memory is taking quite long, even on a fast computer
Yes. I tried installing it and left it there, intending to try it in the future. I have just uninstalled it and Musescore 3 loads very much faster. Mystery solved! Thank you

For me, I just closed my browser and it solved
Not related to slowness of MuseScore on loading MDL soundfonts at all
