Marc (or anyone) how did you get a solid color background behind a measure?
I lost the email with the posted score ... thanks.

This seems buggy. Once I set the highlight color, leaving text entry mode (via click out or ESC) causes the color to revert to white. Can you duplicate this?

This works, though (linked to from that)

Thanks!

I never actually tried this is version 3.x so I suspect there is probably a step or 2 missing. Glad the link led you to your answer though.

Aren't you talking about the same bug we discussed a couple of weeks ago - Inspector changes don't work unless you wait until you leave note input mode before doing them?

MAYBE, but in which case, the entire explanation on the first of of the two pages doesn't work at all, because the "frame attributes:" are ONLY in the inspector. The alleged click-right upon the text does not produce a dialog with the choices described -- it produces instrument-change attributes. Try it.

Those are MuseScore 2 instructions. You need to adapt them to work with MuseScore 3, if you choose to use the text approach, I like the line approach better, but both can work,

Oooooh -- but in that case, if the inspector is the only MuseScore 3 method, it suffers "effects vanish when the edit is closed" as I said, differing from the text attribute cases we discussed earlier because these frame attributes are not in the text "undertoolbar".

I don't understand. Just enter your text first, hit Esc to leave edit mode, then change the frame attributes in the Inspector. The bug only takes effect if you make the "mistake" of trying to access the Inspector while actively editing the text. So it's no different than any other case - don't use the Inspector while editing.

So it is. I did it again. Thanks. Again, the inspector fields being active while editing is a bug.

Absolutely. We know why it happens, but the reasons are kind of deep within the mechanics of how we maintain "undo" state (eg, is editing text one undo-able operation or a whole series of individual keystrokes?) and hence not trivial to fix.
My method (may require some fine-tuning.):
Apply the Line to a measure from the Lines section on the Palettes.
Set Line-thickness to 5sp from Inspector
Set Stacking-Order value from Inspector to "0"
I've attached a sample file.

That's what I wound up doing, according to the second handbook URL I cited. It should have mentioned zeroing the stacking order. I fixed it so.

It may also be useful if you untick Allow-Diagonal.

I added that.
I'm not 100% sure what you are referring to, but I do know I've used lines that I set to 5sp in height, semi-transparent yellow color, as a way of annotating music. You can also set it to a lower stacking order so it is completely behind the staff.

I found that in the "second method/handbook page", and it works fine, with one exception -- Even with 0 stacking order, I subsequently have trouble clicking on notes in that measure,
