Playback issues

• Mar 30, 2020 - 17:48

When I opened up MuseScore this morning I found that the playback button was greyed out. I've tried everything applicable for Windows I could do on https://musescore.org/en/node/96811.
The synthesizer (and mixer) button in view is also greyed out; I restored factory settings; I installed a replacement SoundFont (which I can't set as default due to the lack of access to synthesizer); I/O was empty so I tried to update my sound drivers (windows claims they are all up to date); I restarted Audio and MIDI Devices; MuseScore is not listed on the volume mixer (there are no instructions for what to do if it is not listed); and I made sure that programs can take control of my audio devices. I've done multiple other things as well, including restarting Windows and uninstalling and reinstalling MuseScore. I've attached a couple screenshots below.

Some more possibly helpful information:

MuseScore worked (mostly) fine last night. Sometimes when I put my computer to sleep, and started MuseScore again, I had to restart MuseScore to get playback to function. (Playback was not greyed out as it is now, but rather just wouldn't make any sound until I restarted the program.)
I can export to other, non-midi, sound files, which play normally.
When in the note entry mode, I can add notes, but MuseScore doesn't automatically play them for me. Piano keyboard also is silent.
Other software can play sounds; MuseScore is the only program having issues.
I have noticed my computer is running a little slow on somethings, but I think that may just be an unrelated wifi issue.

That seems to have done the trick. Thanks for helping!

Edit: This appears to be a temporary fix, as it keeps recurring. I don't know if the problem is Windows or MuseScore, but the problem will randomly return, and I have to mess around with both MuseScore and Windows settings until it works again.
