how to repeat a section later in a score
In one of my compositions, I want to repeat measures 2 to 7 starting at measure 13, and then continue the piece with new music. In other words, I want to repeat a section later in the piece. How do I do that?

I've been working on this for 1-1/2 hours, but I can't figure it out. This is what makes sense to me, but it's not working:
1. I drag "D.S. al Coda" to the measure where I want the jump to start (it darkens the measure). "D.S. al Coda" appears in blue above the measure, and it's linked to the right spot.
2, I drag the "Segno" symbol to the measure to start where I want to repeat (it darkens the measure). The segno sign appears, and it's linked to the right spot.
3. I drag the "Coda" symbol to the measure to start where I want the repeat to end (it darkens the measure). The segno sign appears, and it's linked to the right spot.
I want the music to jump back to that section, play it, and then jump forward to where I was before. However, no jumping takes place. If I put an "end-start-repeat" symbol or other such symbol where I want the jumping to be initiated, it jumps to the beginning of the piece, not to the segno.
What am I doing wrong?

Select D.S. open Inspector (F8) and check "Play repeats".

Hmm. I don't have an F8 button on my laptop, so if I hit "D.S." in the "Repeats & Jumps" choice, then go to Inspector, I should find a "Play repeats"? I'm not finding that, so I must be in the wrong place.

While Inspector is open click on D.S.

I don't see that in the Inspector. I'm thinking my cursor has to be somewhere special for that to show up.
I appreciate the help, but you're giving me the quick shorthand version as if I'm an expert. I need it step-by-step.
I'm surprised you have to go the Inspector. Why can't I just click on symbols and drag like I was trying to do? It all seems overly complicated.

If you click on a jump, some text boxes and a checkbox are displayed in the Jump section of the Inspector. These have the following effects on playback:
etc.
It is understood that the jump has already been entered in the score. is what you have to select with one click, then you will see the options in Inspector.

How do "enter a jump", and which symbol is that for DS al Coda? I've hit "DS al Coda" many times when clicked on the measure break where I want it to work, but nothing happens.

select the measure you want the D.S, double click the D.S. in the palette. Then look in Inspector

When I hit "D.S.", I don't see a Jump section in Inspector; there is a Play section, though.

There got to be a Jump section in Inspector (when selecting a jump). In MuseScore 3.4.2 there sure is. In 2.3.2 too...

It would be easier to help if you would post your score. But as I understand it, you want the following sequence of measures played. 1 to 13, 2 to 7, 14 to the end. And from the description of what you have done, I see that you don't mention adding a "To Coda" jump.
What I think you need is something like this.
DS_al_Coda.mscz
However, it might be better to do it like this with a repeat and voltas like this.
Repeat.mscz
As you can then have other repeated sections later if you want them.

Yes, thank you. Either of those methods would work, if I just knew how to do it. I just sent the score to the other person.

With your graphic and the volta section in the instructions, it took me a only a couple of minutes to do it. What a relief.
