Total Rythmic Value
I'm at a complete loss when trying to enter triplets. The video says that the trick is to calculate the "total rythmic value" - WHAT!!!
Perhaps I should go back to the start - I'm not a musician. I don't play an instrument. My only contact with musical notation was in a primary school percussion band (and that's a very long time ago).
So why am I using MuseScore? Simple - I am a Country Dance Caller. When researching new dances it's useful to have some idea of how the music will sound.
Can somebody tell me how to calculate the "total rythmic value" please????

It just means, what should the three notes add up to. For instance, three eighth note triplets add up to one quarter note. So you start by selecting the quarter note rhythmic value from the palette (or using the keyboard shortcut 5), then hit ctrl-3.

Thanks for the reply......but this is a clear example as to where mathematics and music diverge.
According to maths 2 x 1/8 = 1/4
According to music 3 x 1/8 = 1/4
Am I missing something here?

This is what triplets (and other touplets) are about.

basically means, "3 in the time of 2".
