Midi Keyboard

Hey everyone. So, I'm having some trouble with my keyboard and connecting to musescore. I have purchased a midi in/out to usb and my PC recognizes it and it seems to work fine, however, when i open musescore and try to imput notes, it doesnt do it. under preferances, the port audio input device is there, and when my keyboard is off, it's no longer an available option, so i know Musescore sees it. The midi icon next to the play icon is also pressed. according to all videos, forums, and instructions it looks good. but it doesn't work (after selecting note input mode by pressing n and selecting Quarter note) I have a kawai L1. Windows 7, musescore 1.0, cheap midi usb in/out from amazon...

The midi connection appears to work, but while entering notes I frequently get a message from Muse to enter a note and repeat. When the note finally appears after several frustrated, identical attempts (in accordance with the instructions), the cursor won't advance to the next beat. All subsequent notes stay on the same beat of the same measure. Am I doing something wrong?
Equipment: Yamaha Clavinova CLP-560, CME U2MIDI v2, MuseScore 1.1, Windows 7.
