aligning counting under notes

• Nov 23, 2016 - 19:58

How do I align the counting under the notehead. It always wants to centre it. I write music for handbell ringers who cannot read music but can count and follow colours for the different bells used.

Right-click -> Select -> All similar elements
Then use the Inspector (F8) -> H/V offset
but I'm not sure I understand :(

Not sure what you mean by "counting". I am guessing you are trying to put text in to say "1", "2", "3", "4", etc to show where each beat is? And maybe you are trying to use lyrics (Ctrl+L) for that? That isn't a good idea. Might be better to sue chord symbols (Ctrl+K), and use the text style to position them below the staff rather than the default above. But without knowing more about what you mean, it's hard to advise you for sure. If you still have trouble, please attach your score so we can see what you are trying to do.

I'm commenting here because I have a requirement similar to this poster, I want to insert as text under the staff, harmonica tab. Each entry may range from one to four characters: one or two numerical characters for the harmonica hole, an optional minus (-) to indicate draw notes, and an optional caret (^) to indicate the use of the slide on a chromatic harmonica. I created a text style with the font size, but I don't know what else to do, or even how to enter the text. When I chose System text it placed the text above the staff. I could drag it down , but I don't want to do that for every note. The text style I created "Harp Tab" doesn't appear on the add text menu. Obviously, I'm new to the product. I've watched all the getting started videos and several third party videos, as well as read most of the handbook, but I haven't figured it out. Can any one point me in the right direction?

First, no need to create a new text style - you could simply edit the existing system text style to place the text below, then use that.

but if you do create a new text style, it won't indeed show up as a new type of text - it's a style that can be applied to *any* type of text. So, you could create the text as system text, then use the Inspector to assign it the "Harp Tab" text style. this can be done all at once, by first entering all the text, then right clicking one, Select / All Similar Elements, and then making the change.

Or, you could simply use lyrics if that works.
