Time Signature 3/2 Difficulties

• Mar 5, 2012 - 15:32

3/2 is not available under "Palettes" > "Time Signatures".

My usual way of creating a document is to make a New one and just select a key signature and a time signatures, and add stuff from there. I was not able to do this but I found that the wizard allowed me to do this. OK. So I have my score Time Signature 3/2. All is well till I need to append more measures. I do this and they show up as "Measure Properties" > "Mesaure Duration" Nominal: 4/4 Actual 4/4. I hit what appears to be a back button at the bottom of this Properties menu and both Nominal and Actual go to 3/2, I apply and ok. I check this measure again and it's back to 4/4.

I am using the nightly build from several days ago. Clearly I am stuck without the ability to add more 3/2 measures. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Charles

I assume "2/3" above was a typo? also, I'm confused as to what stopped you from entering 3/2 in the new score wizard. As for why no 3/2 in the default palette, I can only observe that it would impossible to list every possible time signature, and I guess that was deemed not common enough to warrant inclusion. I don't see how adding it to the palette would change anything, though.

And in any case, according to the issue report listed above, the bug where inserted measures always come out as 4/4 only affects the trunk, not any released version. I just tried and failed to reproduce the problem using a pre-prerelease build (5213) of 1.2.

As for not wanting to start over, you could create a new score and make it 3/2 and with the correct number of measures from the very beginning, then copy/paste the contents of the old score into the new. Or you could wait and try again when this gets fixed in some future nightly build. Presumably you are aware the nightly builds are experimental only and not meant for real work?

Marc reply makes a lot of sense, as always ;-) I know it is a temporary situation and it will be fixed (I'm debugging it right now myself!).

Nevertheless, I want to express my solidarity to cpk: I am stuck too in a similar problem with trunk, which makes trunk testing slower and cumbersome for me. In my case, it is often impossible (or at least very hard) to know in advance how many measures I will need, while transcribing Renaissance music in separate parts and without any measure bar!

Cheers,

M.

Yes a typo 3/2 it should have read.

I could not find the pre lease version that you mentioned anywhere. At one point I thought that there were pre release mile stone versions on the site, but I can only find the nightly builds that seem to go back 5 days (I am using OS X). I tried to use production 1.1 but i would not open the file. I settled for the oldest nightly build.

The copy/paste worked for awhile, then I ran into a measure where copy and paste crashed the program. After I entered a few measures past that by hand, copy and paste seemed to work OK.

Thank you so much!
Charles

The pre-prerelease I have was custom built, but a real prerelease should be showing up any day now. I mentioned it only because the issue referenced says it works fine in 1.1, as I would have expected, but I did think it worth checking to see if it looked like the problem affect 1.2. Looks like it won't.

It is true 1.1 won't open a file created by 2.0, although if you export to MusicXML and then import, you should get reasonably close.
