I think you don't in tablature. In a regular staff you can change the notehead to a cross.
Edit: it works when applying the fross from the noteheads palette, but for some strange reason not when using the Inspector, the latter looks like a bug to me

As said, works from the Palette. That it doesn't from Inspector would be worth being reported as a bug in the issue tracker

For Tab, use shortcut: Shift + X

Interesting, this does it in the tab staff only (Shift+X in the normal staff mirrors the notehead to the other side of the stem), the cross notehead from the noteheads palette does it in the normal and tab staff, the inspector does it in the normal staff only, pretty confusing and inconsistent IMHO?

Mhh, OK, so as per this and #46141: Ghost note in TAB does not toggle it seems to be by design then?
