Playback of written chords

• May 1, 2017 - 04:58

I have been entering chord names for guitar on Musescore (written as in the name of the chord above the line as opposed to chord notation) and I have not been able to playback the chord. I have the rhythm notation instead of pitched notes but still, nothing is played back. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

As a workaround, you can add an "invisible" staff for playback by filling the chords. Obviously, it's an extra time. If it is an opportunity and for a short score, this can be done. Systematically for important scores, no.
A suggestion, which is worth what it is worth, may be to keep the staff for playback, and others later (as a personal dictionary), and be able to copy-paste these chords, so as not to have to rewrite them. Just an idea for troubleshoot (and again, for simple things)
See eg: 1chords.mscz

I'm working on a score of Michael BUBLE SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME, and , after the Intro, the first passage is with only guitar-Basse-piano and drums, so , the guitar is necessary. For the first time, for me, I have written the chords, with acoustic guitar sound. The result is not bad, I think. It takes no long time, in such a song, the chords are "repetitive". I put this score (not finish and without the voice) If you want put guitar in Solo Save the last dance for me.mscz

See attachment:

Changes:
0. Guitar TAB added.
1. Note positions of the chords (voicing) adjusted. (to suitable for the guitar)
2. Strokes (Up and down) adjusted (in Piano Roll.)
3. Mutes adjusted. (In Piano Roll)
---
4. See the baritone saxophone part at measure 46. : eighth note -> whole-note changes.

Notes:
* Please do not change the guitar notes with "note-entry" (the piano-roll changes will be lost). Just select the note and use the arrow keys to move up and down.

Which SoundFont do you use?

Thanks for answer (I'm French so my English.......) For TAB, I never uses it, I am a musicien with notes, I'm a guitarist and I never use it, so I don't know how to read TAB (I know but I don' t use. I was playing guitar in a Big Band and I write also arrangements, we never have a sheet music with TAB.

For the positions, you're surely wright I don't care for it,I write the notes for the chords not in thinking to the hand position of the fingers. It ios only to have a back sound of guitar.

For Baritone, the song I'm working, is already a score for big band augmented of 2 flutes 2 clarinets, and Strings. I write it for a concert band with singer (me) and, often, if I find a score existing, I buy it, it help me for the beginning. First I re-write it, after I complete with flutes clarinettes, Horns, Sib Baritone, Percu (claves etc...).
In this case, I'm in the re-writing, and I simply re-write whait is in the score I got. After I work on it, first for my voice (I'm not Michael BUBLE !!!) I transpose (not easy for all the differents keys, in a concert band, I can't put , for them, 5 sharps or 6 flats. So, for the Sax Bar, it's simply what is written in the score, after, I listen many, many, many times to find (or try) the exact notes.
For soundfound, I use Musescore without nothing more so , I believe it is FluidR3.

I added TAB for information , because I'm not a guitarist, but I'm a composer and arranger.
And as I write chords for the guitar, I need to see that the gap between the fingers is not more than four frets. And I have to be sure that the chord can be played with four finger. (Sometimes I have to use full strings. And I have to make sure that there is no other finger behind the barre.)

About the note I changed as a whole-note (was eight-note): It is a trick often found in old arrangements. While baritone-sax holding a low note of chord, other Saxophones make syncope.

Why did I ask which SoundFont You used :
FluidR3's acoustic and nylon guitar presets -unfortunately- have an unnecessary release part. That means: You can not hear the changes I made in Piano-Roll editor.
Solution: Temporarily try to change the guitar timbre to Jazz Guitar (in mixer) and listen; You will hear my changes. (also try "Solo" in mixer)

(PS: Also My English isn't very good either. If I wrote something that was not understood correctly, it must be my mistake.)
