Instrument Volume Not Changing in MIDI Export

• Jan 1, 2013 - 21:04

I mainly use Musescore to create MIDIs (for a somewhat sandbox MMORPG I play) of songs I like that don't already have MIDIs or scores. Therefore, I format my scores to where they sound right in the MIDI export.

My problem is, I need to change the volume for Castanets, which is too loud. I've been using the Mixer to change the volumes of instruments for export, which normally works, but for some reason Castanets stay the same volume no matter how low I turn the volume down. Even when it's turned down all the way.

I've tried making a new MIDI file instead of overwriting, I've closed and reopened the program, nothing I've tried fixes the problem. Help?

What is your Operating system??

Which version of MuseScore are you using?

Can you attach the file which is causing problems?

I've just tried adjusting the volume of castanets in MuseScore 1.2 on WIndows XP and it is working normally. There is, therefore, something else going on with this.

Right I know what's going on.

You have two percussion tracks, both of which have to be played on Channel 10 by MuseScore - I know that isn't actually so but this is the way Musescore "thinks".

Consequently your volume setting for the second drum track is overwriting the one you have set for the castanets.

The easiest way of dealing with this is to edit the velocity setting of your castanets by selecting all the castanets and opening their note properties. CHange the velocity type to User and then set a suitable velocity value in the box at the bottom.

Alternatively tweak MuseScore's output MIDI file in a sequencer.
