Can't Change Note Value of Grace Note

When I add a grace note to a note on the first beat of the measure, I can't edit the pitch of the grace note. The note value of the grace note defaults to the pitch of the note the grace note is attached to. How can I change the note value of the grace note? I would like it to be a half step below the note of beat one.
