Too bad there's no snap-to, but a clever idea nonetheless. How about something not as dark, like...

(PaintBrush) and already made clearer, although it becomes difficult to read. The idea was to graph paper, but should coincide with each line of the staff. I do not think I can do better, and something had already been proposed, eg http://musescore.org/en/node/10013

To me, the lines should not be so intrusive and dark as to make things more cluttered. Since the wallpaper doesn't scale when zooming, trying to keep the same distance in the graph lines as the staff lines is unworkable. I'll stick with mine for now, making fine adjustments.
