guitar chords
I have in my old age taken up the guitar and am learning about music in the process. At this point I don't know how to take the piano score of a song and create chords for the guitar and perhaps I'll never acquire that skill. Is it possible for Musescore to create chords from piano scores automatically? If not, could it ever become an added feature?

The short answer is that no it is not possible for MuseScore to do automatically. It's really a highly complex topic in artificial intelligence, and indeed many piano scores won't have any guitar chords at all that could be played, because they aren't based on chords in the first place. There is some small subset of music for which it would easy to do, but for most music, basically, the best you could hope for is a very rough approximation only. There has been research done into this field, and maybe someone has written a plugin to attempt some small part of this for MuseScore. But again, the short answer is that no, it is not in general possible for any software to automatically create chords from piano scores automatically with any degree of confidence.

Thank you, Marc, for your enlightening comment. The music for which I would want guitar chords are songs, i.e., tunes that people sing, which might fall into the category of a "subset of music for which it would easy" to automatically generate chords. But I am guessing.

Unfortunately not. It's only "easy" if the music consists of nothing but root position triads played over and over. Real songs aren't played that way in general.
