Flags and Barring error

I have measures in 4/4 the measures start with 1/8th rest 1/8th note then 2 1/8th notes on beat 2 the rest of the measure doesn't matter, We will just just say a half note. The 8th not on the AND of 1 is Barring with the 2 8th notes on beat 2. How can I make that 1/8th note have a flag instead of barring with the notes on beat 2?
