Instrument groups
I would like these instruments added:
- The Instrument's display name in the instruments window will be Violins I & II
Part name will be violin
Long instrument name:
First
Violins
Second
Short name:
I
Vlns
II
Three channels:
Arco: preset 48
Pizzicato: preset 45
Tremelo: preset 46
Default staves:
2 treble clef staves
Comments
That's what templates are good for, We can't add duplicate instruments all over the place, 1st and 2nd flute, 3rd and 4th trumpet etc.
2.
Display name: Trombones
Part name: trombones
Long name:
2 Tenor
Trombones
1 Bass
Short name:
T
Tbn.
B
Two channels:
Tenor; default preset=57
Bass; default preset=57
Default staves:
1 tenor clef
1 Bass clef
That's what I mean, where to end?
I have seen these in almost every orchestral score I've looked at. Like this: https://musopen.org/music/composer/antonin-dvorak/?instrument=8
1 more:
Display name: Bass trombone+tuba
Long Instrument name:
Bass trombone+tuba
Short name:
B. Tbn
Tba
Two tracks:
Trombone; default preset=57
Tuba; default preset=58
One Bass clef stave
How else can I do this?
I can't exactly create the instrument Bass trombone, change the names, and then add another channel. This one is a little more necessary than the first two.
As said, templates are the way to go

I want to put bass trombone and tuba on the same staff and have a channel for each of them. How do I do this? I don't see an add channel button anywhere.
These are different instruments, making them one instrument with 2 staves won't work if they have different sounds, lead to issues when you wand different dynamics or hairpins on them, and probably causes issues when wanting to switch channels on just one of them.
This add all these instruments individually, and join barlines, add brackets. Then save as template and create your score from that

You can set Dynamics to apply only to one stave ff the instrument. It really works.

Violins are ALWAYS like this.

I know that. It is not the default setting though. And the least of the problems I mentioned
Violins are ALWAYS like this.
ALWAYS
No, never, EVER. They are still individual instruments, with individual parts, for individual musicians. Just bracketed
Fortunately if I can figure out how to do this myself I am legally allowed to.
Of course, just create your own instruments.xml and use that, in addition to the builtin one. But it'd be far easier to just use a template for this.

Of course I'll make templates.
But I can't figure out how to add new tracks to existing instruments in a score.
So I need to make instruments first.
What do you mean by "new tracks"? Staves? Don't add, just add another of the same instrumets. Channels? No needed, violin and trupets have their channels already, and for trombone no sound exists for muted
In reply to What do you mean by "new… by Jojo-Schmitz
A trombone from the instrument. Xml has one track. I need one for the tenor trombones and one for the bass trombone.
As said, add 2 trombones, as separate instruments. Or do you want to notated those 2 on one staff? Voice 1 and 2? You can do that already, they do use the same sound anyway. You'd only need channels here if you need separate entries in the mixed for them

Then how do I do this?:
The letter T right in front of the staff for the tenor trombones and the letter B in front of the bass trombone staff with the abbreviation "Tbn." in between the two staves?

As far as writing two instruments on one stave, I'd like to do this with contrabass trombone and tuba.
Ah, now it is getting clearer, you're just after the instrument names and their positions.

Is it possible? How do I put "Tbn" in the middle of the staves?
Same with putting "vlns" in the middle of the two staves.

You can put returns into the names of the instruments so you can name an instrument something like:
Violins
II
(it looks better in the sample score)
I personally would make this the name of violins I and erase the name in violin II so the display and staff functions are both as you desire.
You can add a staff to an existing violin staff and this will center on it, but you will have many problems that are tedious to overcome. The default dynamics would be applied to both violin I and II. It will be difficult to change between arco and pizz. These can become, but I would even explain it.
Here's my sample. 2 violins.mscz
