How to use Synths

I feel like this will probably be really obvious but I can't figure this out.

I discovered you can use a custom synth in musescore. I understand you can alter the synth, but I don't get how you add or preview it. Help plz..

I also don't understand the things like the mixer, but it's not a major issue .
