Question about meaning of "update"
I'm wondering if "update" as a noun in the context of e.g. "Check for Updates" ever means something different than "Check for new version". Can somebody please clarify the meaning of "update" in that context? Can I consider "update" and "new version" as synonymous, as in 2.3.1 is an "update" of 2.3 and 2.3.1 is also a "new version" that followed on 2.3, or not?

I can't speak to any official policy regarding the usage in the MuseScore release cycle, but I can comment that as a native English speaker who has been pretty involved, there is no real difference to me :-). At some level, I guess "update" sounds more like a minor new version (2.2 to 2.3 or 2.3 to 2.3.1) rather than a major one (MuseScore 2 to MuseScore 3), but I wouldn't consider it wrong to call MuseScore 3 an update, either.

As an American who speaks English, in the context I see no difference between the two. I suspect the change came about because someone had difficulty with the translation.
Thanks, Marc and Mike! I waited to see if more people (especially more Brits) would chime in, then forgot about the thread. :-o It seems to me everybody is happy with your interpretation, so I am now going ahead and using it.

As a Brit, it seems to me that "update" and "new version" mean much the same. And "Check for updates" sounds quite sensible as a menu option.
