No, we're still waiting for a certain QT bug fix to make it into QT 5.9 before we're able to build for any macOS before 10.12

Even then, it'll only be macos 10.10, right? With Apple, support for older operating systems comes to an end relatively early. Would it be possible to provide MuseScore for Macports or directly for download as a version for XQuartz (like Inkscape, which has no native port for Mac)? Then you could still use it on older systems or is that too much effort? Unfortunately ver. 3 files can't be opened with ver. 2 anymore, otherwise it wouldn't be so tragic (only the detour via musicxml remains, of course)

Yes, with Qt 5.9 we can only go back to 10.10 and 10.11, lower Qt versions would need us to severely crippling the software.
Track it here: Issue #281472 : MuseScore 3.0.0 does not run on macOS 10.10 & 10.11.

Indeed, we still have no good solution for providing MuseScore for macOS 10.10/11.
You can check the version supplied via https://musescore.org/en/node/281472#comment-904068 though
